The new Xbox console controllers are now officially making their way on the internet,
which is pretty funny as the accompanying console,
the Xbox Series X still doesn’t have a release date or price yet.
But the two publicly scattered controllers we’ve looked at so far are even more interesting because of their similarities,
the official mention of “Xbox Series S” as Microsoft’s additional next-generation console.
Ars Technica can confirm that this is indeed the name of an upcoming Microsoft product but it hasn’t been announced yet.
The controller itself was previously announced alongside the Xbox Series X reveal,
during the December 2019 broadcast of The Game Awards.
Despite its strong resemblance to existing Xbox One controllers,
the general print has been scaled down to better support a wide range of hand sizes.
Functionally, it’s identical, apart from the new “share” button,
while the d-pad has been updated to resemble one of the d-pad options found in the first-party Xbox Elite Controller line-up.
One of the new controller owners,
known as Zak S on Twitter,
pointed specifically to the updated d-pad as “one of his favorite pieces.”

Zak S was kind enough to immediately send Ars Technica’s photo of the new controller instruction manual,
which shows the console’s power button that looks like an Xbox Series X,
along with an image of a laptop and smartphone.
It describes how to sync the new controller with compatible hardware,
but the manual doesn’t show the old One model,
nor does it indicate the possibility of alternative or smaller console designs for the S Series.
Does that mean the S Series will have the same monolithic shape as the X Series still must-see?
When shown leaked photos of the controller,
Ars’s source would go no further than confirming the existence of the Xbox Series S as a product.
We still assume that is in line with more than a year of rumors about the codenamed “Lockhart” console,
which will come at a lower price than the Xbox Series X,
and play its software with a certain drop in performance,
perhaps a 1080p friendly version of the XSX 4K resolution and aspirations ” Speed Architecture “.
