The image as the son-in-law of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is considered to be an obstacle for Bobby Nasution to win votes in the Medan Regional Election.
As we know, residents in Medan are considered to have negative sentiments towards Jokowi and it influenced Jokowi’s defeat in Medan during the 2019 presidential election.
“I think, it is not beneficial for Bobby Nasution as the son-in-law of Jokowi. Especially, in Medan, the public does not respect Mr. Jokowi,” said a political observer, Pangi Syarwi Chaniago to reporters, on Monday Agust 10, 2020.
According to Pangi, it would be difficult for Bobby to win the Medan Regional Election. Bobby had to work hard to build his branding.
On the other hand, Pangi said the typology of Medan voters was different from Solo, where one of Jokowi’s son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, would fight for the mayor’s seat.
For this reason, the image of Bobby as Jokowi’s son-in-law has no effect.
As we knew, Bobby Nasution is currently waiting for the PDIP recommendation ticket for the Medan Regional Election which will be announced tomorrow (Tuesday, Agust 11 2020).
Bobby already has the support from 4 political parties, namely Gerindra, PAN, Nasional Demoktrat, and Golkar.
However, Bobby’s journey to win the Medan Regional Election seat was overshadowed by the defeat of his father-in-law, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Based on General Election Commissions data, Jokowi-Ma’ruf received 542,221 votes, while his competitor Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno received 645,209 votes.
