Forest fires are common in the West, especially in California, because of the many lightning strikes.
At least 26 fire complexes burned in California and several of these fire complexes contained several smaller fires.
Here is the latest information on the recent fires in California.
Fire and lightning attacked Sonoma and Napa Regencies covering an area of 32,025 hectares and were 0% restrained. Three buildings have been destroyed with 1,900 more at risk and evacuations are underway.
In Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Joaquin, and Stanislaus County there are about 20 different hotspots, covering an area of 35,000 hectares and 4% being overcome with 1,200 buildings under threat and evacuations in place.
In San Mateo and Santa Cruz County, the forest fires have occurred covering 7,500 hectares and are currently 0% contained.
It consists of several massive fires caused by lightning and a mandatory evacuation of a site with 1,200 buildings at risk.
Fires also occurred in Ventura County covering an area of 3,000 hectares and now 20% has been contained.
If the fire persists all night then all evacuation warnings will be lifted.
Apart from California, the fires also occurred in Colorado where the Pine Gulch fire now covers 87,770 hectares and is the third-largest fire in Colorado history.
In addition to all the fires that occur in the West, historic heat grips this part of the country as well.
Some of the hot records include Anaheim, California hitting 105 degrees, which was the warmest temperature ever recorded there in August.
