President Donald Trump is said to want to sell Puerto Rico or exchange it for Greenland.
He did this because he thought that the United States in the Caribbean was dirty and poor.
Former Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Homeland Security Miles Taylor said Trump’s views were made when he was about to stage a support operation.
After two big storms hit the island in the Caribbean Sea in 2017.
The former official said he did not consider Trump’s remarks a joke.
“And the fact that the President of the United States wants to take American territory and exchange it for having a foreign country is more than flawed,” he said.
Trump has long expressed his dislike for the island of three million people.
Many of Puerto Ricans live in the continental United States, because of the difficult economic problems there.
“He’s their president too. He should stand with them, not try to sell them to a foreign country,” he continued.
In 2019, Donald Trump canceled a visit to Denmark.
After Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen rejected the request to buy Greenland.
The Danish PM called the request “absurd”, although at that time there was no discussion regarding plans to sell Puerto Rico.
Trump himself called Taylor on Twitter a “disgruntled former employee” who was “said to be very rigid.”
