After China, Indonesia Builds Most Hotels in the Asia Pacific

Indonesia is noted to have built the most number of hotels in the Asia Pacific after China at the close of the second quarter of 2020.

According to the “Hotel Construction Pipe Trend Report” published by Lodging Econometrics (LE), Indonesia has 345 hotel development pipelines covering 56,373 rooms.
The number of developments above India with 263 projects containing 35,839 rooms, and Japan with 243 hotels covering 46,852 rooms.

Australia is next with 179 projects and 33,672 rooms, and Vietnam with 157 projects and 62,085 rooms.

Meanwhile, Jakarta is leading the major pipeline network in Asia Pacific with 78 projects covering 13,508 rooms.

Again, this number outperforms other cities such as Seoul, South Korea with 67 projects and 13,233 rooms and Tokyo, Japan with 59 projects and 14,216 rooms.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, followed in the next position with 50 projects and 13,325 rooms and Bangkok, Thailand with 50 projects and 12,711 rooms.

As for the top franchise company in the Asia Pacific region, once again outside of China, with the highest number of rooms managed is Marriott International with 294 projects and 63,558 rooms.

Second place is filled by AccorHotels with 214 projects and 45,407 rooms. Then in succession at the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) with 160 projects and 33,721 rooms. and Hilton Worldwide which manages 22,797 rooms from 99 hotels.

While the top brand on the development path in the same area is IHG Holiday Inn with 58 projects containing 12,100 rooms.

The Ibis AccorHotels brand has 46 projects with 9,080 rooms, and Novotel has 41 projects and 9,973 rooms.

Followed by the Marriott International Courtyard, 8,295 rooms from 40 hotels and the Fairfield Inn which operates 51 projects with 7,495 rooms.

The latest Holiday Inn Express with 30 projects and 6,063 rooms.

According to LE, Asia Pacific is one of the first regions in the world to control the spread of Covid-19.

This allowed construction of the hotel to restart gradually at the end of April, causing only minor delays to the project schedule.

“Most of the developers seems optimistic because the project will continue as planned,” added Lodging Econometrics.
