At least 100 people are feared being trapped in the rubble of a five-floor building that collapsed on Monday in an industrial city in western India, a lawmaker said.
“I believe between 100 and 125 people must have been inside when it collapsed,” Bharatshet Maruti Gogawale, a member of the local parliament, who was present at the site, told Reuters.
The building consists of about 47 flats, according to the western Maharashtra state police department.
Authorities have not been able to determine the cause of the fall and the number of casualties, but about 30 people were pulled out by rescue teams and local residents.
TV channels showed footage of the debris with local residents and police trying to reach the trapped people.
