The body of the teenager was found near a forest stream 10 days after she went missing
A Malaysian court opened a hearing on Monday into the death of an Irish teenager whose body was found near a forest stream, 10 days after she went missing during a family vacation at a rainforest resort.
The body that was found naked was named Nora Anne Quoirin. He is 15 years old and suffers from learning difficulties.
She was found in a ravine near the Dusun resort in Seremban, about 70 km south of the Malaysian capital in August last year.
The police ruled out a kidnapping motive in her case.
They also said they had found no signs of abuse, but her family questioned the findings.
Her family also said she never left them on purpose.
Government lawyer Muhamad Iskandar Ahmad said 64 witnesses were expected to be summoned during a two-week hearing at the Seremban Coroner’s Court.
Authorities previously said an autopsy determined that Quoirin died from internal bleeding, possibly caused by prolonged hunger and stress.
She had intestinal damage and died two or three days before her body was found, officials said.
The forensic pathologist who performed the autopsy found several small scratches on Quirin’s leg but determined that it would not lead to his death, police said.
