Ensuring Sputnik V is Safe, Russia Offers Indonesia Cooperation in Corona Vaccine Production
The Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Lyudmila Vorobieva, said that her country had offered to cooperate with the Indonesian government to produce the Sputnik V. Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine.
“Russia has (proposed) cooperation with Indonesia regarding vaccines and there have been several contexts established between the Russian Direct Investment Fund, the main distributor of vaccines. I hope this cooperation will develop after the vaccines are certified,” Vorobieva said in a press conference, Wednesday (August 26).
Furthermore, he said the presidents of the two countries had agreed to cooperate in the field of preventing the spread of Covid-19 in a conversation via teleconference several months ago.
The Russian Direct Investment Fund is said to be ready to cooperate with Indonesia in the distribution of vaccines when the clinical trials have been completed.
Vorobieva said that apart from distribution, the Russian Direct Investment Fund is also ready to produce several vaccine components in Indonesia.
He hopes that this proposal will receive a positive response from the Indonesian government.
According to him, the reason behind the various speculations that question how Russia can manage and develop this vaccine is that the vaccine-making technology has been well developed and has been known for many years.
He also said that Sputnik V is safe to use.
The coronavirus vaccine developed by Russia has been tested on 79 people aged 18-60 years.
The third clinical trial of the Sputnik V vaccine is expected to be carried out next week in 44,000 people in several countries.
“We hope there will be more than 1 billion people getting the Sputnik V vaccination in the coming years,” he said.
A number of researchers abroad claim Russia’s decision to approve the use of the Sputnik V vaccine is hasty.
They also question the evidence of clinical trials being done for the vaccine.
The World Health Organization (WHO) also stated that it had not given approval and verification of the Sputnik V vaccine for general production and use.
