Flash floods in Afghanistan claimed the lives of over 100 people and destroyed several homes near Kabul. And also piles of rocks from destroyed buildings were scattered across the city.
As cited News24xx.com from the report in AFP, nowadays, the rescue workers searched for victims from collapsed buildings in Charikar, with roads blocked by mud and debris and cars flipped on their side.
Rain caused floods in the capital of Parwan province. And flash floods were also reported in other provinces — including Nangarhar, Panjshir, Wardak, Loghar, Paktika and Kapisa.
In that tragic incident, a number of children became the death toll.
In the city, many residents stood on rooftops under continued heavy rain and holding on to their salvaged belongings.
One of the local residents in Afghanistan named Mohamed Qasim, a 45-year-old farmer, told, “When the incident occurred, my sister, her husband, two of their daughters, and their children were all sleeping in one house. At least, 11 members of my family were killed in the floods. Most of them my nieces and nephews.”
Afghanistan’s state minister for disaster management said the death toll from the floods had risen to 100 and nearly 500 houses destroyed.
As information, torrential downpours and flash floods kill scores of people annually in Afghanistan. And make it worst, many poorly built homes, mostly in rural areas, are at risk of collapse during the rains in impoverished countries.
