The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency has informed that a tectonic earthquake occurred in the southern region of Java on Monday, August 31, 2020.
The earthquake that occurred in the southern region of Java has a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale with the epicenter of the earth located at the coordinates of 8.80 South Latitude and 111.22 East Longitude, which means its location is in the sea with a distance of 68 km south of the city of Pacitan, East Jawat with a depth of 65 km.
The cause of the earthquake in South Java, according to the Head of the Sleman Geophysical Station, Agus Riyanto, was due to subduction activity.
This earthquake is reportedly not going to cause a tsunami and residents are expected to stay calm, avoid buildings that are cracked or damaged by the earthquake and make sure your house is earthquake-resistant enough.
