The Pentagon has just released an annual report on China’s military developments.
The report states that China is trying to develop a military logistics network in the Indian Ocean region by considering several countries, including Indonesia, as locations for its military logistics facilities.
As reported by the Nikkei Asian Review, Wednesday (September 2, 2020), the Pentagon report entitled ‘Military and Security Development involving the People’s Republic of China’ is an annual report on China’s military strength which must be submitted to the US Congress.
The report discussed various developments in China’s military.
At one point it touched upon the growing global presence of China’s military.
The report also noted that China was working to build a stronger overseas logistics network.
There are several countries that, according to the Pentagon, are considering China for the location of the newest military logistics facilities abroad.
“The PRC may have considered Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Seychelles, Tanzania, Angola, and Tajikistan as locations for the PLA’s military logistics facilities,” the Pentagon report said.
The Pentagon did not elaborate on why China considers these countries as locations for additional military logistics facilities.
It only states that the global network for Chinese military logistics can intervene in US military operations and support offensive operations against the US.
According to researcher at the American Enterprise Institute think-tank discussion forum Zack Cooper, it marks the first time such an observation has appeared in a Pentagon report.
