The lifeguard is seen shooting a shark to protect his partner who is in the water.
They met the predator on vacation.
Initially more than 30 members of Coast Guard Cutter Kimball’s US crew decided to go swimming during their vacation on Tuesday.
They brought an inflatable unicorn balloon into the water to enjoy the perfect weather.
Their vacation was recorded in a post on Facebook.
Then, the coast guard group saw a shark approaching, estimated to be 1.8 to 2.5 meters long.
These sharks are about nine meters away and swim directly into their crowd, according to USCGC, which shared a video of the incident on Facebook.
After personnel reported the shark sighting, Maritime Enforcement Specialist 1st Class, Samuel Cintron opened fire on the shark.
The shark turned around for a few seconds and then turned around.
All members of the coast guard who are still swimming are asked to get on the boat.
Some of these climbed onto the small boats, while others climbed the stairs on the Fantail.
Cintron continued to fire at the sharks.
Each shot caused the shark to reverse direction for a moment but then back again and Cintron had to keep firing at him until all his comrades were safely onboard, the USCGC said.
After reviewing the video footage, the USCGC said they believed the shark was a Longfin Mako shark.
Fortunately, all members of the coast guard managed to get out of the water safely.
“We thought the shark was not injured. He then joined some of his small friends and they swam together,” he said.
