A man in the southern Mekong Delta region, Vietnam, has hair that is five meters long.
Not only that, he also hasn’t cut or washed in 80 years.
“I have faith, if I cut this hair, I will die. I do not dare, even to comb it,” Vietnamese resident Nguyen Van Chien told Reuters news agency.
“I take care of it with care, covering my hair with a cloth to keep it dry, clean and looking good,” she says.
This 92-year-old man who lives in the Mekong Delta region believes that hair should be allowed to grow from birth and should not be cut.
Chien, who lives in a village about 80 kilometers west of Ho Chi Minh City, was asked to cut his hair while in elementary school.
Because of that, he decided to drop out of school.
“I remember my hair was black, thick and strong. I washed and combed it to make it smooth.
But when I heard a call from an unseen force, I realized I had been elected, “he said.
“I touched my hair and overnight it became very hard. It became like it got stuck in my head and became a separate object.”
Chien, who worships the nine powers and the seven gods, is sure he got a call to maintain his hair.
He also wrapped it in an orange turban.
Chien holds a belief called Dua.
This belief is also known as the coconut belief.
People who hold this belief claim that they will live only on coconut to maintain their stamina.
However, this belief is banned in Vietnam and is called a heretical belief.
Chien’s fifth son, Luom, helps his father with his hair.
