The Circular of the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir regarding the arrangement of the expert staff of BUMN directors goes viral on social media.
The letter stipulates the provisions under which BUMN directors employ a maximum of 5 expert staff and a maximum salary of IDR 50 million per month.

In the general point, it is stated that in order to support the duties of the board of directors, expert staff is needed in order to provide input and consideration to problems in the company.
Furthermore, in the point of Contents, it is explained that BUMN directors can employ expert staff appointed by the directors with a maximum number of 5 people while still considering the needs and capabilities of the company.
Apart from the directors of BUMN, it is prohibited to employ expert staff.
The expert staff is in charge of providing analysis and recommendations for resolving strategic problems and other tasks within the company based on those given by the board of directors.
“Income received by expert staff is in the form of honorarium determined by the board of directors with due observance of the company’s capability and is limited to a maximum of IDR 50,000,000.00 (fifty million rupiahs) per month and is not allowed to receive other income other than the said honorarium,” reads point number 3 contents.
The term of office for expert staff is a maximum of one year and can be extended once for one year without prejudice to the right of the board of directors to dismiss at any time.
The letter was stipulated in Jakarta on August 3, 2020, and signed by the Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir.
Special Staff to the Minister of BUMN Arya Sinulingga explained that the policy was an effort to be transparent.
Arya said that his party had found that the recruitment of expert staff was not transparent.
