From a big investigation, the excavators in Mexico found a massive sprawling cemetery containing the remains of more than 100 mammoth skeletons.
It has been discovered in numerous archaeological sites near Mexico City.
As cited from Reuters, the lead of archaeologists named Ruben Manzanilla told, “This place was like a paradise. Around 24,000 years ago mammoth herds migrated deep into North America to feed on sprawling grasslands.”
Manzanila, from Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History, believes many of the enormous beasts met their tragic demise stuck.
“The animals ventured too far, got trapped and couldn’t get their legs out of the muck.”
in the mud caused by melting Ice Age glaciers, he acknowledges that humans also hunted the mammoths by digging shallow water pits to entrap them.
Manzanila believes that once the digs are complete, it has the potential of rivaling some of the world’s largest deposits of mammoth frames.
Mammoths, cousins of modern-day elephants, could grow as tall as 14 feet tall and weigh as much as a gargantuan 20 tons. They became extinct approximately 4,000 years ago.
