Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the Indonesian capital would return to lockdown.
Starting Monday, all offices will be closed except for businesses in 11 “essential” areas.
Entertainment venues will be closed and all gatherings prohibited.
Religious events will only be allowed at the village level for people living in the area, he added.
Baswedan said the action was necessary because the capital’s hospital appeared to be overwhelmed on September 17 if no action was taken.
Indonesia recorded 8,336 deaths from the coronavirus, the most in Southeast Asia.
