The plastic drum at the Floating Pier at the Kuala Enok Transportation Port, Tanah Merah District exploded on Monday, Sept 14, 2020, at around 03:20 pm, local time.
As a result of the incident, three Tanah Merah residents became victims, AHM (67 years) and AL (53 years), as well as a woman RD (38 years old).
The three victims suffered minor injuries as a result of being hit by the sparks and ringing in their ears.
AKBP Dian Setyawan through the Head of Sub-Section of Public Relations AKP Warno said, “The port was tilted because the plastic drums that function as port buoys are leaking, so they are removed for repair by using hot glue.”
AL and RD are tasked with patching using hot glue, while AHM helps clean the tips that stick to the plastic drum.
As a result of this incident, the victim was immediately taken to the Kuala Enok Health Center to get first aid.
“Two victims, AL and AHM were finally referred to Tembilahan Hospital, and now they were in the process of treatment,” he said.
The steps were taken by the Tanah Merah Police, namely
secure evidence, assist in the evacuation of victims, install police lines, examine witnesses, and carry out investigations.
