For the sixth time, the Canadian-American border will be closed through Oct. 21, 2020.
The border has been closed since March 21 in an attempt to curb the COVID-19 spread.
As cited News24xx.com from The Bellingham Herald on Friday, Sept. 18, 2020, before the closure was initially set to last just one month. But, based on public health advice, the government of Canada decided to keep Canadians safe by closed the border.
Reported from Global News, President Trump claimed that the border would reopen soon on Friday. He said, “We’re looking at the border with Canada. We want to get back to normal business.”
But Canadian Public Safety Minister Bill Blair posted a message on social media confirming the continuing closure, which was set to expire Oct. 21, 2020.
As information, the border between the two nations is the longest in the world, spanning an expansive 5,525 miles.
Canada has done a better job reining in the contagion after the U.S. overwhelmingly leads the world in both reported COVID-19 cases (6.72 million) and fatalities (198,484), according to Johns Hopkins University.
