During nine months, the world struggling with coronavirus, the deadly coronavirus pandemic, the number of homicides in Chicago have already eclipsed the death count from last year.
With more than three months remaining in 2020, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office of Chicago announced it had recorded the 677th homicide of 2020, surpassing the 2019 total of 675.
As cited News24xx.com from the Chicago Tribune, at least 86% of those killings were the result of a shooting. Of all the homicide victims there so far, a whopping 95% were people of color — 79% were Black while 16% were Latino.
And about 80% of the shooting has occurred within the Chicago borders.
Nowadays, Chicago has seen an uptick in violent crimes as coronavirus continues its deadly spread across communities nationwide.
