The oldest sperm fossil found in a 50-million-year-old cacoon in Antarctica.
Including the crustacean kingdom with the Myanmarcypris species, the creature is named hui.
It is believed to live in coastal and inland waters in modern Myanmar which are surrounded by trees that produce large amounts of resin.
Shellfish-like crustaceans trapped in resin for 100 million years were recently discovered by an international team of paleontologists.
They also found petrified sperm in the female ostracod, which may be the oldest sperm ever found.
The research is published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
According to the scientists, the findings provide a “very rare opportunity” that could help them learn more about the evolution of the reproductive process.
