Amazing, a study in the US claims to have discovered a form of ultraviolet (UV) radiation that can effectively kill the virus that causes COVID-19, a virus that has attacked countries across the globe.
According to TOI, scientists revealed that the form of UV radiation is safer to use around human beings.
And they also said that it might be able to help in developing a potential disinfection system to kill the virus.
The study published in the American Journal of Infection Control suggests that Ultraviolet-C (UVC) light with a wavelength of 222 nanometers (nm) can kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus without penetrating the human skin.
Before, the experts spread a 100 microliter solution containing the coronavirus onto a nine-centimeter sterile polystyrene plate. Then, they decided to let it dry in a biosafety cabinet at room temperature before placing the Far-UVC lamp 24 centimeters above the surface of the plates.
From the result, know that 99.7 percent of the SARS-CoV-2 viral culture was killed within a 30-second exposure to 222 nm UVC irradiation.
Now, they want to further evaluate the safety and effectiveness of 222 nm UVC irradiation in killing SARS-CoV-2 viruses in real-world surfaces, to determine whether it could be used to kill the virus in real life.
