Abortions of female fetuses have been banned in India. But, in a tragic incident, a cruel man in India slashing his pregnant wife’s stomach with a sickle, because he wanted to know the baby’s gender.
The incident occurred in Budaun district in northern Uttar Pradesh state, on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020.
And for his act, that man has been arrested by the officer in northern India.
As a result of the incident, leaving his wife with critically ill and causing the death of their unborn baby boy.
As cited News24xx.com from the police report, the woman was in intensive care in a hospital in the capital, New Delhi.
After the incident, her brother named Golu Singh told the Thomson Reuters Foundation said that the couple already had five daughters.
“Suddenly, he attacked his wife with a sickle and ripped her stomach saying that he wanted to check the gender of the unborn child. It’s a tragic and cruel incident.”
The baby was stillborn late on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020.
As information, have a daughter in India is often seen as a burden. They feel that families having to pay dowries when they marry.
But, if they have a son it’s a big prize because he will the breadwinners who inherit property and continue the family name.
