Costco allegedly removed the Palmetto cheese from store shelves after the owner of the Palatica Cheese brand called “Black Lives Matter” a “terrorist organization”.
Brian Henry, founder of the Palmetto Cheese and Mayor of Bowles Island, South Carolina, posted a public Facebook post on August 25, in which he said he was “tired of the senseless murders in Georgetown.”
Screenshots of his deleted post are now circulating on social media and calling shoppers to #BoycottPalmetto.
Henry wrote, “Two innocent people were killed. There were no serial killers or people wanted under multiple arrest warrants. Two unarmed whites were shot by a black man.” “So why should we stand idly by and allow BLM to illegally destroy major US cities and threaten their citizens on a daily basis … BLM and Antifa be treated like those terrorist organizations Want who they are. “
A representative for Costco said he had no comment when he arrived in USA Today on Tuesday. Henry did not immediately respond to USA Today’s request for comment.
Henry told The Post and Courier, also known as Georgetown News, that Costco is producing products overseas during the year.
“Sometimes they add and drop products as a matter of general business,” Henry told the newspaper. “We remain optimistic that the Palmetto cheese will return to the shelves in the not too distant future.”
According to The Sun News of Myrtle Beach, Henry apologized at a press conference and called his comments “hurt and insensitive”. He also asked those calling for Palmetto County to reconsider.
