Have you heard about Swastika?
The swastika is a small town in upstate New York, nestled in the Adirondacks in northern New York, about 50 miles from the border with Canada.
The town has decided to keep its name after first settled in the 1800s.
One of the New York City cyclist Michael Alcamo, who suggested the town change its name said, “I think it should be obvious that the town should change its name. And they should pick a name that is not so offensive to so many Americans.”
As information, in August, after getting in touch with county officials, the government of Swastika agreed to add the potential name.
But, the four members of the Town of Black Brook town which also oversees Swastika, agree to keep the name since the town’s founders were inspired by the Sanskrit word meaning “well-being”.
Joe Douglass. the supervisor of the Town of Black Brook told CNN, “We regret that individuals, for out of the area, that lack the knowledge of the history of our community become offended. It is the name that their ancestors chose.”
While it is considered sacred in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and other religions, but Swastika inspired by the Sanskrit word meaning “well-being”.
