After the death of a Japanese popular actress Yuko Takeuchi, 40, at the weekend makes Japan’s government urged people to seek help if they were struggling to cope.
The statement that announced on Monday, Sept. 28, 2020, following the death of “Miss Sherlock” star, shocked the nation.
And it follows the recent cases of Japanese celebrities that taking their lives, with suicides.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato said, “There has been an uptick in the number of suicide cases in our country since July 2020. We have to acknowledge the fact that so many people are ending their precious lives.”
Although did not mention a particular case but noted some people were struggling to cope during the coronavirus crisis.
Kato also urged the public to use suicide-prevention hotlines and other services.
In August 2020, Japan saw nearly 1,900 suicides, up 15.3 percent from a year earlier. In the first half of the year, there was a drop in the number of suicides and in 2019, and the figure fell to a record low.
