WHO does not like a jackfruit? Not only delicious, but it also has various health benefits.
Apart from being eaten raw, jackfruit can also be cooked as fat curry, porridge, and so on.
But did you know that jackfruit can also be a substitute for meat and it is quite popular among people who practice vegetarianism?
In each clove of jackfruit, it contains 2.8 grams of protein. The content meets five percent of human daily protein needs.
Jackfruit is also rich in energy and fiber as well as free from saturated fats and cholesterol and even some people believe it can be a cure for chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes as well as fever and diarrhea.
So not surprisingly, this popular fruit in Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand is now being hunted and started to be grown all over the world.
Jackfruit trees are also easy to grow and can produce up to 200 seeds per year.
Vegetarian practitioner and restaurant owner Mandy Keyes said that she also serves a jackfruit-based menu at her restaurant and it gets customers’ attention.
Not only focused on simple recipes, Mandy told her to process the fruit by sauteing, grilling with barbecue sauce, and spices to enhance the taste. Then, it served as a jackfruit sliced BBQ sandwich.
“It is a good source of protein and even has a good taste and can produce a variety of menus.”
