After spent his time at least 44 years in jail for a crime he didn’t commit, a man shared his joy at being able to see family and eat whatever he wants
The innocent man named Ronnie Long, 64 was convicted of rape and burglary, and all jury in 1976 sentenced him to 80 years in a North Carolina prison.
Despite the crime scene containing hair, clothing fibers, and fingerprints which did not match his DNA, but all-white jury denied it after the victim told officers that he had done it.
After his legal team was granted permission to review the biological evidence, Long was finally released from prison on August 27, 2020.
In an interview on Good Morning Britain on Friday, Oct. 8, 2020, Mr. Long said: ” I’m going to cherish for the remainder of my life. I’m going to try and do the best that I can to enjoy what I have.”
When asked about what he was most enjoying most since his release, Mr. Long replied: “Spent my time with my wife and my family, can to eat what I want. Get up in the morning and see the sunrise, and knowing that you’re not still behind a fence.”
As information, Mr Long’s legal team had battled against his conviction for nearly 30 years before they were allowed to review biological evidence from the scene.
