Angelica claims her family abandoned her after she suffered domestic violence. In 2018, she moved to Ecuador to stay with her brother.
“My mum suffers from severe panic attacks. Then she had lost contact with her family and fled domestic violence. We think during that period of time she was missing, something could have happened to her that caused her psychological trauma.”
A video that capturing the moment Angelica was rescued has went viral.
The video shows fisherman named Rolando, and a friend approaching the floating woman who is almost completely unresponsive. Then, Angelica is dragged towards the boat via a rope attached to the lifesaver which the fisherman had thrown towards her.
The woman was floating above the water for around eight hours and was taken to hospital where she arrived in a state of shock.
Now, Castiblanco and her sister are currently raising money to transport their mother to the capital city of Bogota where they live.
They hope their mum will be taken care of by family.
