The 34-year-old Amber Heard is losing her lawyers who helped her build a defense against her ex-husband, 57-year-old Johnny Depp.
Known, the actor filed a libel suit against her to prove that the domestic violence charges she made against him were based on falsification.
If Depp’s representatives manage to convince the court that she has slandered the actor, she faces a real prison term.
The parties continue to prepare to fight in court, but the defense of the actress is thinning. Four of her lawyers have already filed an application to withdraw from the libel case.
Roberta Kaplan, John Quinn, Julie Fink, David Brook have officially refused to continue to defend her. Virginia-based attorney Elaine Bredehoft will now handle the Heard case. They attributed such changes to costly logistics during the pandemic.
“We believe in Amber and believe in her. We are proud to be her lawyers. In the strange and unexpected circumstances the world is facing due to the pandemic, as travel and logistics have become more expensive, we understand the decision to refer the case to a local Virginia-based trial attorney”, Kaplan Hecker & Fink LL said in a statement.
But Johnny Depp’s lawyers see the whole situation completely differently. The actor’s representative commented on the refusal of the actress’s lawyers to work with her.
“For years, the Times Up movement, which has united the women of Hollywood in the fight against sexual harassment, has joined in the Amber Heard hoaxes against Johnny Depp. Ms. Heard’s lawyers, one of whom was a co-founder of the Times Up Legal Defense Fund, now appear to disown her scams. We intend to find out why this happened”, commented on the situation Depp’s lawyer Adam Waldman.
Now a petition with almost half a million votes is gaining votes on Change.org, demanding that Amber Heard be removed from the list of celebrities who involved in the filming of the sequel of Aquaman, where she plays as the character’s lover.
“Ever since Amber Heard divorced Johnny Depp, she has systematically fought to ruin his Hollywood career by telling stories of fake incidents, giving him a reputation as a tyrant in the home.”
“Since Heard is an abuser herself, Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment should rule out her from the cast of the film project of Aquaman 2. You cannot ignore the suffering of the victims of Heard and create a glamorous image of the abuser”, reads the text of the petition.
