Actor Jean-Claude Van Damme rescued a three-month-old Chihuahua puppy from euthanasia, who threatened the dog due to problems with documents.
In September, a Chihuahua puppy named Raya was brought from Bulgaria to Norway for new owners.
However, the animal had a fake passport and officials were unable to register it. The Norwegians tried to return the dog back to Bulgaria, but they refused to accept it there, citing EU rules for transporting animals.
Under Norwegian law, the dog had to be euthanized by 20 October.
Jean-Claude Van Damme intervened. He launched a campaign in support of the puppy by posting a video on his Facebook page in which he explained the situation while holding his own Chihuahua pet.
The actor asked officials in honor of his birthday, which took place on October 18, to change their mind.
“Yes, they made a mistake, they got the paperwork wrong … But that shouldn’t kill the little Chihuahua puppy”, Van Damme stressed.
As a result, the Bulgarian authorities agreed to accept the dog back.
The puppy will undergo a medical examination, after which it can be sent to new owners.
