It’s horrifying.
After allegedly duping women online, a 28-year-old Nigerian named Onuorah Donatus Jideoffor was taken into custody by police on November 6, 2020.
From the investigation, the police said that he would befriend women on the internet before asking them for money.
As cited News24xx.com from the TNN report, he had many pretexts like for custom clearance for gifts sent to them from outside India. He said he befriended women online over Whatsapp and promised to buy them stuff from London and also get them the foreign currency.
Then they would get a call from someone claiming to work in the Indian Customs authority.
But after he was arrested, many Nigerian nationals protested outside Dwarka’s Mohan Garden police station.
Police said they got details about Onuorah Donatus Jideoffor, who had no valid papers to stay in Delhi. Jideoffor was asked to produce his passport and visa but could not and a case under the Foreigners Act was registered.
After analyzing his mobile phone, the Goa police discovered that Jideoffor posed as Dr. Steve online to dupe women.
“We contacted one of the victims, who is from Goa. The accused has been taken to Goa. Delhi Police has offered full assistance to Goa police to control the menace of cyber fraud,” she added.
