During the pandemic, a school in Chikmagalur district of Karnataka, has converted open areas of close to two-and-a-half acres into farms.
The Shantiniketan Central School in Kadur taluk decided to empty classrooms into workshop spaces.
Then, the school management and the teachers are using the premises to grow flowers, beans, brinjal and chili.
As cited News24xx.com according to a report by The Hindu, the school teachers and staff are in financial distress following the coronavirus pandemic and are making ends meet by doing menial jobs.
Not just the teachers, but the private schools are also struggling to stay afloat. They are not able to collect school fees and have decided to convert the premises into farmland.
Schools are also being used to dry fish.
In Tamil Nadu, some schools have taken up organic farming by putting the playgrounds to use and to have a steady flow of income due to the same.
