BARCELONA has confirmed that its player, Gerard Pique, has suffered a serious knee ligament injury.
The defender clashed with Angel Correa in a match that saw Barcelona lose 1-0 at the hands of Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
After initial treatment, Pique left the pitch in tears, indicating that he was facing a serious injury.
“From the tests, found him to have suffered a three-degree injury to the Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) and part of the ‘Anterior Cruciate Ligament’ (ACL) in his right knee,” the team said in a statement.
There was no mention of a period of time for Pique to rest, but based on a painful ligament injury – even if only partially, it would take months to recover as usual.
At the same time, the team also confirmed that Sergi Roberto also had to miss two months after a muscle in his thigh was torn.
