AFTER lunch, many of us must be sleepy, right? In fact, drowsiness is related to the food and drink we consume.
Here are some types of foods and drinks that have the potential to make you sleepy during the day.
- Kiwi
Kiwi fruit is delicious – sour-sweet in taste, quite suitable for an after-lunch dessert. However, research shows that the serotonin content in kiwi will make you sleepy.
In addition, the content of antioxidants such as vitamin C and carotenoids will also make you feel a little sleepy. - Chamomile tea
The high content of antioxidants and calories makes this tea the best drink before bed. Drinking a glass of chamomile tea will help make a person feel calmer and sleep better.
Chamomile tea contains glycine which can make you feel calm, but drinking it in the afternoon can make you more ‘relaxed’.
- White rice
Rice is a mandatory food for Malaysians and we will at least eat rice twice a day. However, the carbohydrate and calorie content in rice can make a person sleepy quickly.
The increase in tryptophan and serotonin in the blood also causes a person to feel sleepy, especially during the day. - Salad
Salad or better known as salad contains lactucarium which has sedative properties and has a similar effect on the brain.
If you find it difficult to sleep at night, try eating a salad. You can also make a drink from a boiled salad by adding a glass of water and two mint leaves. Drink before bed. - Bananas
Bananas can make a person sleepy because they contain potassium and magnesium which can relax the nerves and muscles.
Bananas also contain vitamin B6 which converts tryptophan into serotonin which makes us feel calm.
