The world football legend returned to his bedroom after breakfast before telling his nephew Johnny Esposito about his health condition.
The nurse who treated Maradona after being released from the hospital immediately after undergoing brain surgery immediately called an ambulance out of panic about her condition.
But it was too late, Maradona died before the ambulance arrived at his residence.
Argentine media suspect Maradona died of a heart attack.
Chief prosecutor John Broyad said Maradona’s body was taken to a morgue near San Andres for an autopsy.
Diego Armando Maradona died around 12 noon local time.
“The forensic police started work at 4:00 p.m. There were no signs of crime or violence on their bodies,” he said.
