The shooting incident of 6 supporters of Habib Rizieq Shihab (HRS) by the police on the Cikampek Toll Road was quite a shock to the public. The police, in their official statement, said that this firm step was taken because they (the supporters of Habib Rizieq Shihab) were against the officers.
At that time, the police claimed to be carrying out an investigation into the HRS case.
The incident occurred at the Jakarta-Cikampek KM 50 toll road on Monday, 7 December 2020 at around 00.30 am, local time.
In this regard, a member of Commission III People’s Representative Council (DPR) from the National Awakening Party faction Luqman Hakim fully supports the steps of the police to enforce the law indiscriminately in order to create justice and a sense of security for the people.
“If there are parties who fight against the police who are enforcing the law and this resistance is endangering the safety of the lives of the police, then according to the procedure, the police must take firm action so that the situation is under control,” he told reporters on Monday, December 7, 2020.
Luqman explained that if the police did not have the courage to act decisively so that there were police officers who became victims, it would cause unrest in the community.
“The decisive action of the police which resulted in the death of 6 supporters of Rizieq Shihab, I believe it was carried out in accordance with procedures and aims to protect the safety of the lives of police officers from attacks by firearms and sharp weapons. And I think the armed attacks on state officials are acts of terrorism,” he said.
Luqman also appealed to Habib Rizieq to be cooperative and obey the laws that are valid in this country, and should learn from the 4th President of Indonesia, KH. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) was willing to leave his position as President in order to avoid the dissension.
“If Rizieq Shihab continues to fight against the law, especially by violence, I support the firm stance of the Police and the Army of Indonesia to take the steps to ensure the upholding of law and civil order and ensure the sense of security of the community,” he said.
The PKB politician also asked the police to investigate the origin of several firearms used by Muhammad Rizieq Shihab’s followers.
“I believe that there are certain parties trying to ride the Rizieq Shihab’s group with the aim of creating socio-political chaos, horizontal conflicts, and to tearing apart the unity and integrity of the Republic of Indonesia. Of course, it must be prevented,” he said.
