K-Pop in South Korea is often categorized into 4 generations.
These generations are often defined in a similar way to birth generations, by a certain characteristic, event, or even significant group.
Generation 1 marks the birth of K-Pop as we know it today with groups like H.O.T., Sechs Kies, and S.E.S.
Generation 2 was formed during an economic crisis and was therefore extremely commercialized. They include Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, and SHINee.
The 3rd Generation is sometimes referred to as the “golden age of K-Pop” as the genre boomed internationally. They include BTS, EXO, and TWICE.
The 4th Generation is fairly new (only about a year old) but has truly proved that it is distinct from the others.
Recently, netizens have discussed their top 3 male idols that they think have made this generation unique :
- The Boyz’s Juyeon
As the main dancer of The Boyz, Juyeon has truly proved his skill as a leader of the 4th generation. His striking visuals and powerful moves have shown that this generation isn’t messing around. - TXT’s Yeonjun
The mad-hyung of TXT was actually the first member to be revealed. He is yet another multi-talented dancer who worked hard to grow and define the distinct style of the new generation. - Stray Kids’ Hyunjin
Hyunjin indeed put his soul into dancing. He is also known for his outstanding fashion, along with continuing the long-hair trend. He is a great leader for experimental dances in K-Pop.
