Jesy Nelson leaves Little Mix.
On Monday, Nelson announced that she would be leaving Little Mix, quoting the loss that has been borne by the group to her mental health and the “constant stress” of being in a girl group.
In a lengthy statement posted to her Instagram, Nelson, 29, shared some candid memories of “the most extraordinary moment of my life” and explained why she left the group that consisting of her, Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, and Leigh-Anne. Pinnock.
“The recent truth being in a band has really damaged my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and to fulfill the expectations is very heavy,” she wrote. “There are times in life when we need to reinvest to taking care of ourselves instead of focusing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to start that process.”
“So after many consideration and with a heavy heart, I announce I’m leaving Little Mix,” she added.
The singer explained that she was “ready to start a new chapter in my life” and that she needed to “spend time with my loved ones, doing things that make me happy.”
Later Nelson thanked her fans and the bandmates for “creating some of the most amazing memories I will never forget.”
“I hope that you will continue to fulfill all your dreams and continue to make music that people love,” she wrote to his former bandmate.
Little Mix also shared their own message about Nelson’s leaving.
“After 9 amazing years together, Jesy has decided to leave Little Mix,” the group captioned the four-piece photo.
“It is a sad time for all of us, but we fully support Jesy.” “We love her very much and agree that it is important for her to do what is right for his mental health and well-being,” the group added. “We’re still enjoying our Little Mix trip so much, and the three of us aren’t ready to end yet.”
The trio is now thanking their fans for “the loyalty and continued support from all of us.”
“We are awaiting to seeing many of you on tour,” they concluded the record, signing, “Love always, Jade, Perrie, and Leigh-Anne xxx.”
The announcement comes nearly a month after the group announced that Nelson would be taking “extended leave” from the group for “personal medical reasons.” Nelson has missed several shows, including the MTV Europe Music Awards, hosted by Little Mix without Nelson.
Yesterday, the girl group took the stage for a television show on Strictly Come Dancing BBC – the first since announcing an extended break.
Nelson has spoken openly about his mental health, even the focus of last year’s documentary Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out, in which is she talks about bullying and body image issues while in a group.
“There must be so many women and girls who feel bad about themselves and struggle with mental illness, and I think if I already solve it, I want people to know that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel,” she said in Lorraine UK last year.
The news also came just two months after the girl group released their sixth studio album, Confetti.
