The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said the impact of the Corona or Covid-19 pandemic worse than the consequences of the trade conflict with China.
Trump told Fox Sports Radio as reported by Reuters on Tuesday, “This is a thousand times more than about trade, with all the deaths and the world having to stop. It’s a shame.”
The Covid-19 pandemic broke out in December 2019 and spread to various countries including the US.
The US tops the list of cases and fatalities, with more than 5.1 million cases and more than 164 thousand deaths, respectively, as reported by the Johns Hopkins University website.
The Covid-19 pandemic has spread and infected around 20 million people in around 190 countries. More than 735 thousand people died with 12.3 million people recovered.
As we know, relations between the US and China are in trouble following Beijing’s pressure on Hong Kong with the issuance of the Hong Kong National Security Act at the end of June 2020.
The US and China are also in open conflict by deploying military power in the waters of the South China Sea. Earlier this week, the Chinese military conducted war games related to the visit of the US Health Minister, Alex Azar, to Taiwan.
In Hong Kong, Trump said his administration was taking steps to end Hong Kong’s special status. He also admitted that he had not spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping for a long time.
And also, Trump did not respond to the arrest of media mogul Jimmy Lai, who is the owner of the Apple Daily media and one of the most prominent pro-democracy activists there.
The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called Lai as a patriot and regretted the arrest.
