The connecting bridge in Teluk Lanjut Hamlet, Terusan Beringin Jaya Village, Pelangiran District, Inhil almost collapsed after being hit by a passing boat.
Head of the Beringin Jaya Village (Kades), Hasbullah explained, the incident started when a ship named KLM Talenta almost crashed into the bridge, but the flows which are produced by the ship broken the bridge pole.
“For this incident, we asked the shipowner for compensation of IDR 18 million,” Hasbulah explained.
He explained that the IDR 18 million funds were used to buy canoes and build bridges from wood.
Before being hit by the current of ships, Hasbulah said that the condition of the bridge was already rickety and many of the supporting iron were porous.
“If the ship hit the bridge it would immediately collapse,” he said.
Hasbullah said that Terusan Beringin Jaya Village had submitted a proposal to build the Terusan Teluk Hamlet bridge to Riau Province before 2020.
“We have submitted an aspiration budget proposal through Mrs. Septina Primawati, and the information will be built in 2020, but because of the Covid-19 pandemic it has not been realized,” he said.
