A man is fighting for his life in hospital after his mobile phone he was holding exploded in a car park.Queensland Police were called to a car park in Lutwyche, Brisbane, Australia, on Monday December 28 following reports of an explosion at around 11am.
The 27-year-old man is understood to have been in his car allegedly under the influence of alcohol or drugs pulling apart mobile phones.
One of the devices is reported to have exploded in his hand while he was in the process of destroying the communication device.
He is said to have suffered serious burns as a result of the explosion and was taken to Brisbane Royal and Women’s Hospital.
According to The Australian, the man went into cardiac arrest on route to the medical centre and is considered in a critical condition.
Earlier in December, a seven-year-old boy was critically injured after a mobile phone battery exploded in his hand.
Police said the accident occurred when the boy was playing with it.
Most mobile phone explosions do not come from the device themselves, they’re usually pinpointed to the battery.
A common cause of battery explosion is when it is recharged too much.
