On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, amid new restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus, Bali saw another record-breaking with 350 COVID-19 cases, and bringing the provincial total closer to 20,000.

Chief of Bali Health Agency, Ketut Suarjaya said that 350 people were confirmed positive for COVID-19.

“This is the highest number of positive cases since the pandemic hit in Bali.”

Suarjaya said most of the new cases can be traced to family clusters and are located in Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Tabanan.

As information, Bali began implementing Enforcement of Restrictions on Public Activities (PPKM) on Monday, January 11, 2021, which is a set of new COVID-19 restrictions put in place by Indonesia’s central government for Java and Bali.

The restrictions are enforced until at least Jan. 25, with several modifications in Bali province, such as businesses being required to close at 9pm, and work from office capacity set to 50 percent.

As of Jan. 12, Bali has reported 19,987 COVID-19 cases. At the national level, Indonesia reported over 10,000 cases again just yesterday, bringing the country’s total to 846,765.
