Another Alabama man is facing federal charges in connection with the riots at the US Capitol earlier this month.
Court records show a 23-year-old man William Wright Watson Auburn faces charges of civil disorder for being in a restricted building with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct. Watson had earlier revoked his bond in the drug case, as he was identified as participating in the January 6 riots.
An investigator wrote in an affidavit signed on Monday that Watson described carrying the mace can, pushing it to the Capitol ground and entering the Capitol through a broken window.
The investigator said that in one photo Watson appears to be holding a mace canister under the direction of law enforcement officers, but Watson told investigators that he was holding it to defend himself when needed.
Watson was photographed standing next to a man wearing a horned cap during the riots.
A Watson lawyer maintains that Watson did not commit any violence in the Capitol.
