One of Gus Dur’s daughters, Zannuba Ariffah Chafsoh or known as Yenny Wahid assessed that the attitude of social media activists Permadi Arya or Abu Janda who said that Islam is Arrogant did not reflect the teachings or values and vision of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).
Yenny said that the NU attribute that a person wears cannot represent NU as a whole.
“Now many claims to be NU, but if we trace genealogically for their knowledge, descent, or organizational experience, we will found that there is never any connection with NU,” she said on Sunday, January 31, 2021.
The Director of the Wahid Foundation said that Islamic teachings, as articulated by many NU activists so far, actually provide protection for diversity and the rights of minority groups.
“So, if you say that Islam is arrogant, I am actually questioning this statement. Maybe, there is a small proportion of Muslims who persecute different groups, but they cannot say that Islam is problematic,” she explained.
As is known, the social media activist Permadi Arya or Abu Janda is in the public spotlight regarding his tweet on Twitter which calls’ Islam Arrogant. For his tweet, Abu Janda was reported to the police.
On social media, Abu Janda often shows frills as an activist for Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the largest religious community organization (mass organization) in Indonesia. Like dressed in striped style Banser style.
Then, Abu Janda made a video of clarification that aimed at the Kiai and the Ustadz of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board.
In the video, Abu Janda explains the meaning of his tweet about Islam is arrogant and apologizes for the misunderstanding that he made before in a public circle.
On his Twitter account, Abu Janda admitted that he had never said that Islam is an arrogant religion.
“I never said ‘Islam is arrogant’. I said ‘Islam is immigrants from Arabia’ which was arrogant and aimed at Tengkuzul. What I meant was the Salafi Wahabi sect. When my tweet has gone viral, part of Tengkuzul’s tweet was discarded, so it was as if I was generalizing of Islam. Thank you Kiai, “he wrote in his Twitter account.
