Recently, Apple, the technology giant from the United States (US) is reportedly finalizing a deal with an automotive company from South Korea, Hyundai-Kia to make autonomous cars.
Cited from CNBC International, the company will build an autonomous electric car for Apple which will be produced at the Kia factory located in West Point, Georgia, USA. Apple planned for the Apple Car will begin manufacturing in 2024.
However, until now, Apple and Hyundai-Kia have not provided an official statement regarding the partnership plan between the two big companies. But several other sources also reported that the agreement could be postponed.
Apple cooperating with Hyundai is the first step to develop the Apple Car, an autonomous car for the North American region. The company allowed Apple to design software and hardware for electric vehicles.
This electric car will use the Apple Car name and will not use the Hyundai-Kia name.
The agreement received a positive response from Hyundai boss, Eusun Chung. The reason is, Chung also wants to produce electric cars in the future.
Hyundai-Kia officials believe that this collaboration will accelerate the company’s goal of developing its own autonomous electric car.
However, a Hyundai party, who did not want to be named, doubted this cooperation because they knew Apple’s strategy.
The presence of Apple in the automotive competition will direct them to the car market with global mobility of USD 10 trillion. Of course, this number is higher than the world cell phone market.
