Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Princess Eugenie of York has given birth to her first child with husband Jack Brooksbank.
Eugenie, Prince Andrew’s daughter, announced her pregnancy on Friday, September 25 2020 just two years shy of her second wedding anniversary in October.
On Tuesday afternoon the Palace confirmed she gave birth to a healthy baby boy at The Portland Hospital in central London this morning.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, 9th February 2021, at 0855hrs at The Portland Hospital. Jack Brooksbank was present. The baby weighs 8lbs 1oz, ” an official statement reads.
“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news. This is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s first child, The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York’s first grandchild, and the ninth great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
Eugenie broke the news on her own Instagram account — where she has more than a million followers — with an adorable black-and-white photo of her tiny son’s hand.
Royal fans have already flooded social media with congratulations and warm wishes for the new parents.
The baby is 11th in line to the throne, and the latest addition to the royal family means the Queen and Philip’s youngest son the Earl of Wessex, who was third in line when he was born in 1964, has moved down to 12th place in the line of succession.
