Andrew Ayer alias Andrei Kovalenko, a Russian citizen, was finally arrested with his female partner, Ekaterina Trubkina. The two were arrested at a villa in Umalas, North Kuta, Badung, Wednesday, February 24, at around 01.30 am, local time.
After the arrest, it was finally revealed the role of Ekaterina Trubkina, who was Andrew Ayer’s partner.
This was revealed by the Director of Criminal Investigation of the Bali Police, Combes. Pol. Djuhandhani Rahardjo during his release at the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Wednesday afternoon.
He explained that both were unmarried couples. The role of Ekaterina was to help Andrew escape from the Class 1 Rudenim TPI Ngurah Rai.
“Where she plays a role in preparing and planning the process of escape,” he told the media crew.
In detail, Ekaterina’s role starts from providing an overview of the atmosphere of the Class 1 Immigration office.
“So, she described the situation and atmosphere at the immigration office so that he could run away and so on,” he explained.
About more than an hour before Andrew managed to escape on Thursday, February 11, 2021, Ekaterina went to see Andrew. Then, she gave Andrew directions to escape.
“But in a more detailed process, we respect the criminal process. Because after being arrested last night, they must be accompanied by their legal counsel,” he added.
Previously, the Interpol fugitive from Russia, Andrew Ayer alias Andrei Kovalenko was finally arrested.
Andrei Kovalenko, who used the alias Andrew Ayer, was arrested in 2019 and convicted of possession of more than 500 grams of hashish. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, though typically the charge carries a minimum of four years and a maximum of 20 years imprisonment.
After completing his sentence, he was waiting for deportation to Russia on Feb. 11 when he escaped during the transfer from one immigration center to another when he was visited by his Russian partner Ekaterina Trubkina, police said.
Eka Budianto, head of the Bali immigration division, said both were arrested at a villa early Wednesday after changing places to avoid detection.
They are awaiting deportation to Russia. Police refused to say what charges Kovalenka is wanted on based on the Interpol notice. The Interpol red notice website does not list anyone with that name.
Police said neither faces additional charges in Indonesia.
