Gunungkidul Regency has been known as a barren and arid area because almost all of its topography consists of limestone hills or better known as karst hills.
When the dry season arrives, the green color of the plants immediately turns brown due to withering.
However, behind the aridity of the karst hills of Gunungkidul, there are millions of tourism potentials that are rarely found in other places. One of them is the beautiful caves hidden in the bowels of the earth with rivers flowing fast in them.
Along the river that flows through underground caves is one of the tourist adventures offered in Kalisuci, Semanu, Gunungkidul.
Known as Cave Tubing, this adventure combines caving and body rafting activities.
The meandering river can be seen from the height of the cliff. The turquoise water contrasts with the brown color of the soil, karst cliffs, and withered leaves, creating a dazzling harmony of natural paintings.
The real adventure begins when the river flows into the recesses of Kalisuci Cave and Gelatik Cave. The sunlight disappeared and replaced with a dim and even dark atmosphere, the only lighting was from the headlamp.
The stalactites visible on the roof of the cave were constantly dripping water, some of which were crystal stones. Three bats were seen hanging from the ceiling of the cave, large fish swimming under their feet, and a large spider clinging to the stalagmite.
The beauty of the cave and the coolness of the river combined in the silence made you reluctant to leave. Embracing the cold river flow in the bowels of the earth with the bonus of beautiful and exotic natural scenery is truly an adventure that you will never forget.
