Jakarta has begun administering COVID-19 shots to people aged 18 and above, becoming one of the first provinces in the country to target the general public in its mass vaccination drive.
The Jakarta Provincial Government, starting May 5, health authorities in the capital have begun administering the AstraZeneca vaccine to the general public.
In addition, the elderly and essential workers will continue to get their shots.
“Starting May 5, all COVID-19 vaccinations funded by the government and carried out at Jakarta Provincial Government health facilities, such as puskesmas (community clinics), hospitals, clinics, vaccination centers, and outside of puskesmas will utilize the AstraZeneca vaccine for the first dose. The AstraZeneca vaccine is administered over two doses with a 12-week interval,” Jakarta Health Agency chief Widyastuti said.
Jakarta has received 500,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from the Health Ministry, and is expected to receive 1 million more in the early stages of the vaccine’s rollout to the general public.
Other than Jakarta, Bali has also begun rolling out the AstraZeneca vaccine to the general public this week.
