Two regions in Bali this week began vaccinating members of the general public with the AstraZeneca vaccines. Data from the Health Ministry shows that 801,192 people, or 111.9 percent of the provincial target, have received their first vaccine dose in Bali, while 313,896 people have so far received their second dose.

This places Bali as the province with the highest coverage of first dose vaccination across Indonesia.

Health workers, the elderly and public service workers are among those first targeted in Indonesia’s mass vaccination program.

Officials from Denpasar City and Nusa Penida district in Klungkung regency said the general public have begun receiving their vaccines this week, with other regions in Bali expected to follow suit.

“For now, members of the public who are above 17 years of age will be vaccinated with AstraZeneca,” Denpasar Mayor Jaya Negara said.

Jaya said that over 55 percent of the population in Denpasar has been vaccinated thus far, and that the city aims to vaccinate 100,000 people this month.

Denpasar City Health Agency Chief said they have sufficient vaccine doses for now, following a recent hiccup in distribution. Denpasar reportedly has in stock about 10,000 doses from Sinovac and another 100,000 from AstraZeneca.

First recipients are set to receive AstraZeneca, while those who received Sinovac for their first shots will still be administered the same for their second.

At the same time, mass vaccinations also began rolling out in Nusa Penida yesterday, with local officials targeting 15,000 people for the next two weeks.
